Network camera TOP-201

Recently I have stumbled upon a cheap web camera on ebay that I just had to buy and test it out.

It has a software packed with but that is just basic surveillance software and also a tool to modify camera settings like time, date, format, bitrate, IP address etc… Oh, and it has also built in web server too, but it requires an ActiveX component (sure we know who invented that!!!) so using Firefox does not work except IE.

So after all the settings I have made to adapt it to my network I want it to view on my Linux box. For this I have used VLC in a rstp stream from camera. The url string pattern…

rtsp://IPADDRESS:554/user=[USERNAME]&password=[PASSWORD]&channel=1&stream=0.sdp?
